Animals of Calypso

Animals

Allophyl

Allophyl Class: Unclassified

The Allophyl, also known as the "Fisherman", is one of the strangest native animals on Calypso. It's extremely tall, but despite this size, its body is very light, allowing its long and slender legs to support its own weight.

The Allophyl is a marine animal and lives near the waterside were it primarily feeds on fish and other water animals. Its hunting technique varies from searching the sea bottom to catching free-swimming prey in the water, but its method remains the same. It uses sensitive electrodes on its tentacles to locate the prey, which it then stuns it with an electric charge released into the water between its two slender tentacle arms.

The flying Igni insects are sometimes seen hovering around these majestic animals, hoping to extract some of the residue energy from the electric charges that are released while the Allophyl is hunting.

Armax Bull

Armax Bull Class: Xenosaur

This is a large male xenosaur equipped with an impressive armament of horns, thick plate armor and a club on the end of its tail. Its full scientific name is Armaxenosaur and it's an herbivore that feeds on any type of vegetation, even in barren landscapes were it uses its tusks to dig for water or roots.

The bull walks alone or as the sole leader of a small group of Armax cows. Alone it's quite peaceful but when it's with a herd it will defend its cows at all cost and become very aggressive.

Armax Cow

Armax Cow Class: Xenosaur

This is a large female xenosaur. Its armament might not be as impressive and effective as that of the Armax bull, but it's still very capable of defending itself. The full scientific name of this herbivore is Armaxenosaur. It feeds on any type of vegetation, even in barren landscapes were it uses its tusks to dig for water or roots.

The Armax cow rarely ever walks alone and is most often found in small groups with other cows lead by a large bull. Its natural enemies are carnivorous xenosaurs.

Atrax Dino

Atrax Dino Class: Xenosaur

Also known by its more correct scientific name Atraxenosaurus, the teeth and double set of jaws on these vicious xenosaurian carnivores are made for killing and tearing flesh apart. With such a massive bulk they are capable of stalking and striking down prey much larger than themselves.

Thankfully, these powerful predators rarely hunt in packs, at least not the grown adults who usually hunt alone or in pairs. Younger and less experienced siblings are known to hunt in small family groups for a period before reaching a mature age. Equipped with sharp night vision, they usually hunt under the cover of night, which is why they're also known by a more sinister nickname - the Dark Dinos.

Daikiba

Daikiba Class: Xenomammalien
Habitat: Forests

The Daikiba is a very large and massive animal. Its appearance is distinctive: a large head with two huge saber tusks. Despite its fearsome appearance, it's an herbivore and mainly uses its large tusks to dig up roots or peel bark from trees in order to feed on their soft centers. The tusks are also used as weapons when fighting predators. Its thick leathery hide offers the animal good protection, especially from it's own kind during the tough mating seasons.

Both males and females use their tusks for fighting off rivals, fending for themselves and defending their mates and young. The Daikiba form pairs and family groups, but can also live in scattered herds to benefit from the increased awareness and protection provided by their numbers. As a result, the Daikiba have relatively few natural enemies to worry about.

Igni

Igni Class: Xenoinsectopod

This bug belongs to a special breed of strange alien insects called the Igni. They all share the same unique metabolism, which allows them to feed on energy and store it in their bodies. This makes them very energetic to say the least, and they need to be. Their lack of legs indicates that they remaining in flight all their life after they hatch.

What's even more fascinating is these insects ability to emit energy for defensive or offensive purposes. All Igni insects are attracted to various natural and artificial energy sources, which they feed upon. This niche in nature gives them a very good natural resistance against any type of energy that could otherwise be harmful. There are several different kinds of Igni insects, each one with it's own distinct form of energy emission. It's easy to tell them apart by their color and size. The Red Igni for instance can generate a burning heat ray of concentrated energy, similar to a laser blast.

Occulus

Class: Unclassified

This alien looking creature has five tentacle legs and a round body with only one distinct eye. It's capable of using mental powers and has a strong defense against the human Mindforce. The Oculus maintains itself in an upright position with special glands filled with methane gas. One of these glands can be seen like a red bulge on its swollen head, which serves as a pressure vent. The glands allow the Oculus to hover like a balloon, using its sucker-equipped legs to cling on to the ground for faster movement. Without a good foothold it will float away, which it also utilizes to glide through the air. The gas glands also work as a natural deterrent against predators who find the stench repulsive. Any weapon that might ignite the gas will in most cases cause an explosion if the Oculus is severely injured.

It's uncertain what the Oculus feeds upon to sustain itself, but it's clear that it likes decaying matter. This has given it several nicknames, like the "Rot Pod" or the "Harvester of Decay". Methane gas from decomposing material is most probably its main source of nourishment, which it can extract using its tentacles.

Pupugi

Pupugi Class: Xenoinsectopod

This is a large flying green insect. It belongs to an aggressive breed of different xenoinsectopods that have long scorpion-shaped rear bodies, ending in a big poisonous sting. The sting is very sharp and the lash it can make with its rear body is powerful enough to cut through thick hides. Smaller preys are killed by lash cuts rather than by the poison, while larger prey risk falling victim to a much slower death.

The female Pupugi insects kill larger animals with poison in order to lay eggs in its carcass. The female then ferociously guards this nesting ground against any scavenger who might try to feed on the dead animal. Most predators can sense these nesting carcasses and will usually turn away and find their food elsewhere.

There are several different kinds of Pupugi insects, each one with it's own niche and habitat. It's easy to tell them apart by their size and color. The Green Pupugi is the most common breed and lives in various forms of green vegetation.

Sabakuma

Sabakuma Class: Xenoinsectopod

The Sabakuma, also known as the "desert demon", is a crawling sandworm with big vicious fangs. It seems to inhabit all known deserts on the planet where it hides from other predators or digs itself down to lurk beneath the ground. Its hunting methods vary but usually it patiently awaits its prey to pass over it on the surface before it strikes. This animal is also quite fast and agile and will resurface to give chase to a promising prey. Its thick scaly body provides it with good protection but it's no good against the powerful beak of its natural enemy, a creature known as the Longu.

Snablesnot, Male

Snablesnot, Male Class: Unclassified

This is a bipedal creature with characteristically long and muscular trunks extending from its round body. The Snablesnot is referred to as a relatively harmless predator that feeds on insects. It uses its trunks for many things: to keep its balance, as grip organs, mouths and for hunting its main prey.

It attracts large flying insects with its own body stench, and then shoots them down with a load of sticky and corrosive yellow slime from its trunks, thereby immobilizing them and turning them into easy pre-digested pickings on the ground. The rest of its body has evolved very differently in comparison to the much larger female Snablesnot, but they still share their characteristic set of limbs.

Snablesnot, Female

Snablesnot, Female Class: Unclassified

The female Snablesnot is a large and bulky quadruped. It has two long and massive trunks, used as grip organs but which also function as two mouths, adding even more to its overall length. The rest of its body has evolved very differently in comparison to the much smaller bipedal male Snablesnot.

The female Snablesnot is referred to as a relatively harmless predator that feeds on low vegetation. Leafs and weeds are torn off and sucked up into the trunk were they are dissolved by a lair of corrosive slime before reaching the belly. It's able to shoot sticky green slime as well as concentrated clumps of acid from its trunks, but it primarily uses these methods to defend itself from attacking predators.

Tripudion

Tripudion Class: Xenosaur

Sometimes referred to by its nickname "skipper", this is a large and fast moving quadruped predator. Its supple limbs allow for amazing agility and movement. It normally settles for smaller and quicker prey like flying insects, which its most fit to hunt. Despite this, it's still an aggressive animal.

Molisk

Molisk

The Molisk. Usualy friendly creatures unless you piss them off. Their claws are designed for hacking in rock so they might as well hack in armor.

Mutant

Mutant

The Mutants were once humans, they were among the first pioneers that went to Calypso. After the robots used Nuclear devices in the Robot-Revolt they didn't die but were geneticly alterd. We assumed they died after a while but somehow they managed to survive, now they form one of the biggest threaths to humans on Calypso.

Neco Insect

Neco Insect

This is the Neco Insect, one of the many big insects you'll find on Calypso. They usualy hunt in packs and should be considerd extremly dangerous.
