Robots
Robots Introduction
The invading robots represent the main threat to the humans on Calypso. These robots come from two planets called Akbal and Cimi, located in another nearby star system. These desolate robot outposts were originally large automated mines and refineries before they rapidly evolved into robot war factories.
It remains unknown why these distant robot outposts suddenly saw the human race as their enemy, but evidently they suffered the same infection that caused the Robot Revolt on Calypso. The robots from Akbal-Cimi have somehow gained access to a superior technology that allows them to achieve interstellar travel through teleportation. This knowledge is used to transport robot invaders across space, and land them almost directly on the planet surface of Calypso.
These menacing machines will never stop in their fanatical quest to defeat the humans and conquer the planet. Citizens who choose to fight the robot invaders must be prepared for a long and hard struggle, because this is only the beginning…
"It was foreseen by our ancestors a long time ago, that robots would one day turn against their creators,
but it is still not yet decided who will stand victorious.
- Ximon Galax, Planetary Commander of Calypso
Robot Models
Attackers
The attackers are the main land-based robot assault units. They are distinguished war-machines without humanoid appearance and are equipped with a death-bringing arsenal of weapons.
Their mobility varies, but they are usually designed to be very swift and mobile. This allows them to cover long distances and strike against any given target. They are comparable to tanks, which make them one of the most dangerous robots to encounter on the field
Bunkers
These are stationary robots that function like heavily armored sentry guns with a rotating turret. They are usually built by a Constructor and used for perimeter defense near a base.
Their weapon systems may vary, ranging from energy weapons to solid missiles. In general, the bunkers are effectively protected by shields or armor, which can make them difficult targets to destroy despite their immobility.
Constructors
The Constructors are important components of the robot invasion force. In order for a Robot Matrix to upgrade and expand its robot base, these robots are necessary for creating new structures, extracting resources and establishing new facilities like mines.
They are not designed for combat but are capable of using their diverse tools to defend themselves when necessary.
Defenders
These robots are designed as sentinels. Their main tasks are to guard and defend their robot base and to escort and protect more vulnerable robot units, such as the Constructor.
Defender models range from small, fast and agile units that can quickly intercept an approaching threat to large and slow models that are powerful enough to neutralize a threat before it can cause any damage.
Destructors
These robots are usually constructed as disposable units and are not designed to be retrievable. They are designed as smart traps or automatic seek-and-destroy devices. They are dropped or planted in an environment where they can wait for the right target to come within range. When the units are triggered they are usually destroyed themselves in the attack. If a self-destruct mechanism doesn't destroy the Destructor the enemy most likely will after a failed attempt has revealed it.
Scouts
These are small, fast and agile units equipped with advanced sensor systems. They are used as scouts and move ahead of other units to scan the nearby area for possible threats, enemy targets or new resources. They can also be used to guard the flanks of larger groups of robots. Scouts are often poorly armed and badly protected but their small design, speed and maneuverability makes them hard targets to hit. They are still considered dangerous however because of their assigned surveillance capabilities. Upon detecting a threat a scout will alert the base or nearby combat units to neutralize the danger.
Skyfighters
These robots are constantly airborne and are capable of flight at high speed and altitude. SteelbirdThey range from high altitude interceptors to low altitude gun ships. The high-flying Skyfighters can operate at altitudes close to the edge of space if necessary and only attack flying targets, such as skyships, shuttles and similar vessels. Low-flying Skyfighters, however, are specialized in striking at ground targets such as humans, although these robots will attack flying enemy vessels as well if such targets come into range.
Transporters
These robots transport various forms of cargo, usually materials and resources, to the base, or carry and plant various robot devices. They are equipped with large Atomic Compression Modules and short-range teleportation systems to dematerialize or rematerialize the cargo they carry.
Transporters are also used for recovering wreckage or scavenging items for recycling. Transporters are not designed for combat, making them quite vulnerable to attack. Therefore, other types of robots are often assigned to a Transporter as escorts, giving it protection on away missions.
Troopers
These are pure combat robots, although still humanoid in appearance. They have a heavy reinforced body and are equipped with built-in energy weapon systems, which prevent the weapons from being scavenged and used against their own forces.
Troopers have very good armor and powerful shields, making them into very tough opponents. The weaponry varies between different models, from single standard energy firearms and energy blades to dual firearms and heavy energy weapons.
Warriors
These robots are dreadful war machines and are by all right considered extremely dangerous. They are specially designed to spread terror and destruction wherever they go, killing anything human that may stand in their way.
Warriors can operate very well alone but are also known to work in pairs. In a group of robots they most often function as main combat units, always standing on the front line of the assault.
Workers
These are a class of very simply designed humanoid robots. Similar models were originally used during the colonization of Calypso as human replicas to help maintain the colony citadels before the first human arrivals.
These robots went on a rampage during the Robot Revolt and after the war; many of these old Workers are still believed to lie inactive and hidden inside ruins and secret stockpiles.
The invading robots now produce a new generation of Workers, some specializing in maintenance duties while other variants are equipped for combat.
